Gang Forts Are Back: August 2026 Updates

Hey Era! As you might have noticed, our Gang Zone Invasion game mode, which you probably know as "Fort", had to be disabled last week while we focused on introducing necessary changes to it. Primarily, we reworked how the event is scheduled and ran by the server in the background so that we could port it over to our new timed events system which we briefly mentioned here in a recent blog post for MPX bounties.

In doing this, we also decided to take the opportunity of forts being disabled to introduce bigger changes to how the game mode rewards participating gangs and players. Let's cover those changes below.

How It Used to Work

Previously, gang forts determined the placement of participating gangs by their amount of points earned, which could be accumulated by gang members earning kills against other players within the fort base during the fort's runtime. At the end of the fort, the top three gangs with the most accumulated points would be rewarded from a limited pool of Gralats which scaled with whether a gang came first, second, or third. It would then divide that payment pool by the number of online members on the placement tag.

To illustrate this, if a gang called "Developer" placed first for a fort and had a full roster size of 25 members online at the time of placing, a first place payment pool of 10000 G$ would be divided by those 25 members, resulting in each member earning 400 G$ total for that fort.

Second place gangs with a payment pool of 7500 G$ and third place gangs with a payment pool of 5000 G$ would then subsequently end up with less G$ overall depending on how many roster members they had online, while any smaller gang who didn't manage to place walks away with nothing.

Some core issues with this old system were:

  • Since payment came from a limited-sized pool and scaled with the amount of players on tag, gang leaders and ranks could "Scam" members who helped them place by kicking them from their rosters before the fort ended, resulting in a larger payout for the leader and any remaining members.
  • If you weren't wearing your gang tag by the time the fort ended due to either getting kicked, disconnected, or simply being unable to stay online for the full fort duration, you wouldn't be paid by the system for any of your contributions in helping that gang place.

What We've Changed

We kept the core system of gang placements during fort being determined by total points accumulated from member kills (Flag room kills count for extra points by the way!) and also kept placements limited to the top three gangs. However, we've scrapped the mechanic of payouts coming from limited G$ pools and scaling with online roster size entirely, instead choosing to reward individual per-player contribution. (While introducing some new mechanics to forts as a whole!)

How Members Are Rewarded Now

Introducing Placement Kills

Members who participate in forts from a placing gang are now paid out based on how many individual kills they earned under that gang. These kills have different payout rates and maximum caps depending on whether your gang was first, second or third. To sum them up:

  • First place roster members earn 16 G$ per kill with a total cap of 1250 G$. A member on a first place tag would need to earn 78 kills total during the fort's runtime to hit the reward cap to give you an example.
  • Second place roster members earn 12 G$ per kill with a total cap of 1000 G$.
  • Third place roster members earn 10 G$ per kill with a total cap of 750 G$.
  • Placement Kills are only calculated and paid out once the fort has ended.
  • If you are kicked from a placing gang but contributed to their placement by earning kills under their tag, you will still be paid out for your contributions after fort ends.
  • Payments are sent out even to offline players now.
  • If you participate in a fort from multiple tags and more than one of those tags places, you'll receive only the placement payout of the tag you performed best in. So if you participated on a 1st place tag, but had a better performance on a 2nd place tag, you'll receive only the 2nd place tag's placement pay!

Introducing EC Piece Rewards

At the end of a fort, first place gangs will now be rewarded 1 Event Coin Piece per contributing member. To avoid abuse however, there will be an undisclosed amount of minimum points you have to contribute to a first place gang to qualify for it. We want to prevent players trying to get on rosters only for the coin piece without contributing much to the gang's success.

Note: Total pieces obtainable by a single player will be capped to 2 per day for good measure! The PM you receive at the end of each fort will tell you how many pieces you have left for the day if you place first. This cap resets every day at 1 AM Eastern Time.

Introducing RNG Kill Payouts

All players who play on a gang tag during a fort now have a chance to earn Gralats for kills gained during that fort. It doesn't matter whether your tag places or doesn't place. So long as you earn kills during an active fort and are on a tag, you have a chance to earn anywhere from 10 - 500 G$ per kill at varying odds.

  • RNG Kills are paid out instantly. You will see your Gralat balance increase as you play for earning kills.
  • Since RNG Kills are chance-based, not all kills will earn G$, and higher payout amounts will be much rarer to roll.
  • RNG Kill payouts are capped to 700 G$ per fort and reset with each new fort.
  • With average odds, it will take a player around 80 kills to max out their RNG Kills cap for a fort.

In summary, any player can now walk away with something for participating in a gang fort event, and a first place roster member can now potentially walk out with a total of 1950 G$ and 1 Event Coin Piece per fort if they max out their Placement Kill and RNG Kill contributions.

That's all for now! Best of luck during your forts, and thanks for your continued support of Era.
